Visit Testimonials
He was interactive, funny, and informative. The students loved him! The hour that he spoke flew by. The students were talking about the presentation all day!
-Lance Middle School, In-Person Visit
His story was gripping real, yet attainable for a young and diverse audience. Be ready to be entertained... while being reminded about the important parts of being human.
-Henderson Junior High School, Virtual Visit
This guy was AMAZING! He's my favorite so far. The kids loved that he was young and very relatable. His passion for writing was apparent. He encouraged our students to find their passion and continue at it. He also gave awesome life advice.
-Reading Junior High School, In-Person Visit
While virtual visits can be stifling, George came prepared, made efforts to engage the students, and provided an organized and engaging presentation.
-Hawktree Creek Middle School, Virtual Visit
We were lucky enough to have George visit our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, and they were fascinated by his story. They keep checking his book out of our library.
-Farwell Elementary School, In-Person Visit
The class loved him! They're not the calmest, so I'm always a little hesitant with speakers. There are a lot of kids interested in writing there, and they really appreciated his candor.
-Charles Wright Academy, Virtual Visit
He had a warm and positive presence that the kids enjoyed, and answered their questions with enthusiasm. We really enjoyed having him as a guest in our classroom!
-Neil Armstrong Middle School, In-Person Visit
School Visits
For schools, I offer presentations, workshops, and Q&As centered around the power of storytelling, being a writer, and the personal experiences that led me here! My visits can be a half-day or full-day, in-person or virtual, and I’m always happy to flex to the needs of your students. Some of the many topics I can speak to include:
How I use my experiences to craft stories and how you can too
Fostering empathy through storytelling
Lessons we can learn from compelling characters
How to break into traditional publishing
Reach out to ask me about my visit fee, which I can customize based on your needs!
Workshops
Often, I'm asked to put on a workshop rather than (or in addition to) speaking about my experiences. The workshop topics I offer for school visits, library visits, conferences, and all other organizations include:
Writing your story: the building blocks of writing a compelling story. How can we draw from our own experiences and interests to create a story that hooks others?
Crafting compelling characters: a deep dive into external and internal character motivations and how they drive the narrative of the story.
Fiction 101: an overview of fiction writing, covering genre, the types of fiction, and how to write across them with ease.
Non-Fiction 101: a discussion on personal essays, narrative non-fiction, and memoir interspersed with activities to engage audiences in the delight of non-fiction writing.
Telling diverse stories: it is more critical now than ever to explore diverse literature. How can you use your unique experiences to enhance a story?
Writing and selling children’s books: the mechanics of writing a children’s novel, and actionable steps one can take to get their work published.
Writing and selling graphic novels: a deep dive into how to write graphic novels as well as how to craft a proposal for pitching it to agents and publishers.
Publishing and the book business: all about getting an agent and landing a publishing deal, includes actionable steps to take and the opportunities available becoming a working author.
